TFTP Server
Pro Server Only

TFTP Server Overview
TFTP stands for "Trivial File Transfer Protocol". Many network devices require a TFTP server to load their initial operating system or configuration. Devices typically requiring a TFTP server to load their initial configuration include: routers, switches, hubs, SIP phones, X-terminals, and printers. Important! A TFTP server is not an FTP server. TFTP and FTP are different protocols.

The Sambar TFTP server was created with SIP phones in mind. Ultimately, the Sambar Server will have all the network components to provide a complete small business office solution: WWW Server, Mail Server, and SIP server (VOIP). The combination of DHCP, DNS and TFTP provide a fully integrated platform a SIP solution (a SIP proxy/server/redirector is currently in development.) The TFTP server can transmit multiple configuration files at the same time using the multi-threaded Sambar Server environment. The Sambar TFTP server is a transmit-only server; configuration files can be read from the server, but not modified or uploaded.

There are only a handful of paramters to configure the TFTP server:

  • Act As TFTP Server = true | false
  • Trace TFTP = true | false
  • TFTP Directory = tftpboot
Any file in the tftpboot directory are available for uploading by TFTP clients. This directory is created automatically under the Sambar Server installation directory when the TFTP server is initialized (if it does not already exist.)

The config/security.ini file can be used to configure TFTP client access through either the [tftpaccept] or [tftpdeny].
